Chocolate PB2 Review

Chocolate PB2 is an awesome product all around. Its versatility is excellent; it can be either mixed with water or milk to make a fairly tasty peanut butter spread, it can be mixed into protein shakes for an added peanut butter flavor, and it can be added into other healthy snacks such as greek yogurt or casein protein fluff for added texture/flavor. With all of that versatility, the extremely low calories and great macros just make the icing on the cake. Or the peanut butter on the brownie. Whatever term you want to use.

Chocolate PB2 Review

Chocolate PB2

2 servings of PB2, 90 calories for all of this.

The original flavor of PB2 comes in at 50 calories with the macros 5p/5c/1.5f, while the chocolate PB2 contains 45 calories with the macros 4.5p/6c/1f. So as you can see no matter what flavor you decide to go with, you can’t go wrong with the macros. Personally, I’m a fan of the chocolate PB2 a little over the original flavor, but that’s just because I’m a chocolate guy in general so your mileage may vary. If you’re a huge fan of peanut butter you might prefer that flavor since the peanut butter flavor is distinctly more prominent for obvious reasons. In fact for that reason, I prefer the original flavor of PB2 as opposed to the chocolate when using it as a mix-in with greek yogurt, casein protein, and etc. since the peanut butter flavor is so much stronger. I will usually add it to something chocolatey so the added the peanut butter is a nice addition to balance out the flavors. Adding chocolate PB2 in that case to something already chocolatey would kind of defeat that purpose and not work quite as well. However, in cases where I’m eating it plain or using it as a spread/dip for other food items, I definitely prefer the chocolate version.

Chocolate PB2Now, comparing it to real peanut butter, clearly it’s going to lack the texture due to it being just ¼ of the calories. It’s significantly less creamy and a little more ‘rough’ in nature, but it’s not bad any means. I’ve tried many ‘diet’ foods over the years; some of them only taste good when your calories are so low and you forget what real food tastes like, and some of them can actually taste pretty decent and edible year round regardless if you’re watching calories or not. Chocolate PB2 is definitely a case of more of the latter as opposed to the former. While it’s certainly not as tasty as real peanut butter (let’s be honest, what is?), it’s still good on its own right and can be enjoyed to some degree by most people. Even when I’m in a phase where I’m trying to gain muscle and my calories are higher, often times I will still use PB2 over real peanut butter because it gets the job done well enough and is significantly less calories which will usually give it the slight edge in my justification to use it. That’s not to say I won’t ever have real peanut butter, just not all the time whenever something calls for it. Real peanut butter is just SO dense though that it’s really hard to justify a lot of the times unless your calories are like 3000-4000+ a day.

Overall, chocolate PB2 is a great product that I continue to use regardless if I’m in a caloric deficit or a caloric surplus. Its versatility in various uses make this a staple in my diet when I’m really watching the calories. Its only downside is that it takes a little effort to make, but for the calories you save combined with more than passable taste, it’s definitely worth the effort.

daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She put the
shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear.
She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is totally off topic but I had to tell someone!
