For me, apple pie is one of those weird flavors where I don’t actually like apple pie itself, but for some reason I generally enjoy products that are flavored after it if that makes sense. It’s that exact opposite of how I feel about banana based products. I usually don’t like fruit based protein bars either, but perhaps the fact that the apple taste is combined with extra sweetness to mimic that pie effect is what makes me a fan. I also just like the taste of apples as a fruit better than bananas anyway. With all that being said, I enjoyed the Quest apple pie bar a little bit more than what I thought I would which was nice a surprise.
Quest Apple Pie Review
If this bar was just straight apple, I wouldn’t like it nearly as much. However, the ‘pie’ aspect in the Quest apple pie flavor is the real game changer. I guess Quest’s take on the pie portion of the flavor is just them adding cinnamon to it, but that’s definitely okay with me considering how much I love cinnamon. There are some apple/cinnamon chunks in the bar as well. Unlike most other Quest bar mix-ins, they aren’t really crunchy but they’re more soft and gooey. I normally like some crunch to switch up the texture, but the softer mix-ins work in this case.
The calories for the Quest apple pie bar total out to 190 calories consisting of the macros 20p/23c/7f in addition to 14g fiber. The macros for this flavor are a bit odd considering 190 calories is some of the highest Quest has to offer, but 7g fat is also the lowest they have to offer. Higher carbs with a little bit more sugar is what does it. It’s not that bad though, 7g fat is still awesome and great to work with.
I would still rather have a chocolatey Quest bar over a fruity one, but I will say the Quest apple pie bar was a great effort and almost persuaded me otherwise. The sweetness with the cinnamon and sugar really is a great tasting combination, and the apple/cinnamon chunks are pretty good when combined as well. Looking back, this is probably my favorite fruit based flavor of Quest bars. On first thought I would say that the white chocolate raspberry is, but that one doesn’t really count since it does contain a form of chocolate. If you’re in the mood for a Quest bar but don’t really want something chocolatey, this is one of the flavors I would recommend.
