Let me start this review by saying this; I had no idea the Combat Crunch chocolate cake bar even existed until multiple people told me about it. The first time someone mentioned it I just assumed they meant the chocolate brownie flavor for some reason, I even saw the packaging which looked extremely similar to that. Then I maybe thought that either chocolate brownie/cake was the old name, and they just came out with a new name for the same flavor. I decided to do a little research, and damn, I guess they are two different flavors after all. Chocolate brownie is a bodybuilding.com exclusive flavor, while the chocolate cake is a GNC exclusive flavor. I expected them to taste pretty damn similar regardless considering a brownie is basically like a form of a cake, but I was still excited to find out for sure considering I really liked the chocolate brownie bar.
Combat Crunch Chocolate Cake Review
My thoughts were correct, as the tastes between the two bars were extremely similar. If you had me try the Combat Crunch chocolate cake and the chocolate brownie bar simultaneously, I’m not confident that I would be able to tell the difference. Granted, it was like a week or so in between trying both of the flavors so it’s not super fresh in my mind, but it’s what I instantly thought of at least. There were some small, chocolatey crisps in this bar though, and I can’t remember for sure if the chocolate brownie had the same crisps or not. Besides that, like all other Combat Crunch flavors this bar has a firmer, crunchier coating on the outside filled with a soft-baked center. It’s delicious. The chocolate flavor to this bar is excellent and strong enough to satisfy that chocolatey craving, but it’s not too sweet or rich like One’s chocolate brownie flavor can be.
The Combat Crunch chocolate cake bar totals out to 210 calories consisting of the macros 20p/25c/7f in addition to 12g fiber. The same exact macros as all the other Combat Crunch flavors, which I gotta say is pretty impressive on MusclePharm’s part for being so consistent. It definitely makes tracking the macros easier which is an awesome thing in my eyes.
As expected, the Combat Crunch chocolate cake bar was a delight. Also as expected, it tasted very similarly to their chocolate brownie flavor, which wasn’t necessarily a bad thing considering that flavor was also excellent. This flavor did contain some small chocolate crisps which were nice additions for textural purposes, though. I do think that this is one of the best flavors that Combat Crunch has to offer, probably in the 3-4 range, but I still don’t think that it’s as good as their cinnamon twist flavor, which quite frankly is maybe the best protein bar I’ve ever had. Regardless, this bar is still an easy recommendation, especially for chocolate lovers.
+Awesome, chocolatey taste
+Whey protein isolate
-Maybe not a con really, but too similar to their chocolate brownie flavor
