Enlightened Sriracha Crisps Review

Enlightened Sriracha Crisps

Enlightened hit an absolute home run with their protein ice cream pints, to say the least. Those things taste AMAZING. Naturally when I discovered the Enlightened Sriracha crisps when I strolled into Vitamin Shoppe one day, I was curious to see if their savory game could match up to their sweet game. The packaging described them as roasted broad bean crisps high in protein and fiber; sounds intriguing enough. I’m a big fan of sriracha so ultimately I decided on that flavor to be the first to try.

Enlightened Sriracha Crisps

My first thought was that they weren’t as crispy as I was expecting considering the name. They weren’t exactly ‘crunchy’ I would say, if we’re being as technical as possible. They definitely aren’t soft by any means and do have an element of crunch and a clear firmness to it, but it’s not crunchy in the same way you would describe a typical potato chip. When you do bite into it though, you feel like you are actually biting into something substantial. Unlike the Quest chips, which are very hollow and ‘airy’ (even though the seasoning is good). Speaking of the seasoning, the sriracha flavor isn’t bad and is pretty flavorful, but I was kind of hoping for a little more of a kick to it.

The Enlightened Sriracha crisps total out to 100 calories per serving consisting of the macros 7p/15c/2.5f in addition to 3g fiber. Here’s where the annoying thing comes in; a serving is equivalent to 1 oz or 28g. I always find it to be a hassle when labels list serving sizes in weight instead of number of pieces, requiring you to actually get out the scale if you really want to measure each serving exactly. However, that can also be one of its biggest strengths as well. Because it lists the serving size by the weight, you know you are being as PRECISE as possible each time you weigh it out, where as listing a number of pieces can sometimes be unreliable considering not all pieces are the same size. For people that care to be as 100% on point as possible and/or in a contest prep, this actually turns out to be a good thing in my opinion. It’s like one of those annoying tedious tasks that your parents forced you to do growing up that you never really enjoyed to do, but you knew you would be better off for it in the long run.

Overall, I found the Enlightened Sriracha crisps to be an enjoyable treat. While the texture isn’t exactly crispy it’s still pleasant to chew through, and the seasoning is good. The macros aren’t anything amazing so this isn’t a straight up protein snack, but they’re still good enough to the point where you could eat the entire bag and not feel bad at all about what you ate (an entire bag would roughly be about 25p/52c/9f). If comparing Enlightened products directly, I do think that their ice cream products are still the more enjoyable experience. However, these are still a delicious snack and their other flavors might taste even better, so be on the look out as I review those in the near future!
