Trying out a new protein bar is always an exciting day, especially when it’s a lesser known one that has great reviews. I’m familiar with Grenade as a supplement company (I don’t believe they’re based in the US however), as I really enjoy their Hydra-6 protein powder which is an awesome tasting whey/casein blend. I had no idea they made some protein bars as well though until I randomly came across them online. I think they only have a couple flavors, and only one flavor that they sell in singles and not by the box. That made it an easy decision on which flavor to try first, and that flavor ended up being the Grenade Carb Killa Caramel Chaos bar.
Grenade Carb Killa Caramel Chaos Review
On first glance, the Grenade Carb Killa caramel chaos bar isn’t much to look at. Some of the best tasting candy bars (and protein bars) have very plain appearances though, so I know that appearances can be deceiving. On closer inspection though, I noticed a small amount of caramel starting to ooze out of the bar so I had a good feeling that this bar was going to be PACKED with a caramel flavor… And packed it was. This bar was ridiculously good, and even better than I could have imagined. I got a real candy bar vibe when eating this, and that’s clearly always a good thing. It has multiple layers, flavors and textures, so the bar becomes way more complex when you go beyond the external exterior. The top layer is filled with smooth caramel and is absolutely delicious; the caramel flavor is truly spot on and they really nailed the creaminess of it. The bottom layer resembles more of that typical protein bar-like texture, kind of like what you would normally find on the inside of a Combat Crunch or Fit Crunch bar. The flavor of this layer is strongly cookie based, and even gives off a slight cookie dough taste (in my opinion at least). To mimic that flavor even more, there are also some small chocolate chips which add a nice crisp here and there. While the caramel layer is tastier on its own, the cookie layer is also pretty damn good and I wouldn’t be mad about having a bar that just contained that aspect and not the top caramel flavor. Because this bar DOES contain an amazing caramel layer on top though… That just separates itself from the pack and what makes this bas as incredible as it is.
The Grenade Carb Killa caramel chaos flavor totals out to 210 calories consisting of the macros 23p/20c/8f in addition to 7g fiber. I gotta say, hat’s off to Grenade. To make a bar taste THAT awesome while still having awesome macros such as this was no easy feat I’m sure. Only 20g carbs for a bar of that size is pretty incredible (hence the ‘Carb Killa’ title), and protein being the most abundant macronutrient is just icing on the cake. Fiber could be a tad higher which is my only gripe, but with all the other strong positives this bar has going for it, this can be easily overlooked.
Wow. I didn’t expect to feel so strongly about this bar, but I definitely do. These feelings can’t be denied. The Grenade Carb Killa caramel chaos bar was EXCELLENT and can stand next to the very best tasting protein bars on the market, hands down. The unique flavor really sets it apart as well. Surprisingly, there really aren’t a lot of caramel flavored protein bars out there. Even the biggest hitters in the protein bar industry don’t have a caramel flavor for whatever reason yet (I’m looking at you Quest, Combat Crunch, Oh Yeah! One, etc.) The fact that this is a rare caramel based protein bar and that it’s actually executed near flawlessly make this a SUPER easy recommendation. At this point in time as I write this review, you won’t find another protein bar out there that’s quite like this, I can guarantee you that.
+AMAZING, caramel/cookie taste
+Not very many caramel flavored protein bars out there, let alone ones that taste good
+Protein is highest macro source
+Whey protein isolate
-7g fiber could be a tad higher
-Not very easy to find (can only find online as far as I know if you live in the US, so far at least)
Overall Rating: A+
