The only other protein brownies that I’ve had have been Lenny & Larry’s Muscle Brownies. While those aren’t bad, they aren’t nearly as good as their Complete Cookies, or as most top of the line protein bars for that matter. For whatever reason it just seems hard for companies to mimic the authentic taste of a brownie while packing it full of protein. I kind of expected the same result with the MHP blondie chocolate chip brownie, but only one way to find out.
MHP Blondie Chocolate Chip Brownie Review
Basically what I expected. It definitely wasn’t ‘bad’, far from it, but I don’t really see why I would ever choose this over a Quest/One/Combat Crunch protein bar for a similar calorie snack. It doesn’t really taste like a true brownie, but I can see where they were going with the blondie chocolate chip flavor. I can taste the resemblance, it just doesn’t quite come together and the flavor is never fully realized. It’s like a less sweet version of what it’s supposed to be that doesn’t taste as good. With the protein and fiber it’s obviously a hell of a lot more healthy than your average brownie, so when you take that into mind it tastes pretty decent all things considered. There are some protein bars I prefer taste wise even over real, unhealthy candy bars (seriously), but I can’t say that this brownie tastes as good as any regular blondie chocolate chip brownie that I’ve had. The initial taste is okay, but it sort of leaves a prolonging after-taste that isn’t the cleanest feeling in the world.
The MHP blondie chocolate chip brownie totals out to 190 calories consisting of the macros 15p/21c/8f in addition to 5g fiber. Not bad macros I guess, but when you compare it to most top protein bars out there that taste a lot better, it’s nothing special at all. This is the same calories as a cookie dough Quest bar, just with less protein and less fiber… So yeah, no real reason why I would ever choose this over that as far as protein snacks go.
Unfortunately the MHP blondie chocolate chip brownie just falls short of what it intends to. It doesn’t taste terrible, but it doesn’t really taste that great either. There really aren’t a lot of protein brownies out there, and probably for good reason. They just can’t seem to compare to the best protein bars yet as they still haven’t found a winning formula. I’m sure one day there will be an awesome tasting protein brownie that will warrant a purchase over some protein bars, but that day has not come yet.
+Some whey protein isolate
-Very average taste, wouldn’t choose this over most protein bars
-Some soy protein isolate
