GNC sort of shocked me with their Total Lean Advanced protein bars. Their cookie dough flavor exceeded my expectations, so I was curious to see how their other flavors stacked up. I decided to try the Total Lean Advanced Peanut Butter Banana bar next, just because it was the only other flavor I could find in the store. I’m not crazy about banana flavored protein bars, but I do love peanut butter. I was really hoping the banana flavor would take a backseat to the peanut butter when it came to the overall experience of the bar.
Total Lean Advanced Peanut Butter Banana Review
It remained a distant hope that never came to fruition. The banana flavor was just as prevalent as the peanut butter flavor to my dismay, if not even a little bit stronger. The Total Lean Advanced Peanut Butter Banana bar was a letdown in that sense. The texture of the bar was comparable to their cookie dough flavor which is comparable to a Quest bar, so texturally it’s not bad to chew through. There are just no mix-ins, differences in textures, etc. basically ANYTHING to spice up the otherwise very boring taste of this bar. That’s probably the best word to describe this bar actually; boring. Nothing crazy or unique about it, just an average protein bar that tastes like a combination of bananas and peanut butter.
The Total Lean Advanced Peanut Butter Banana bar totals out to 200 calories consisting of the macros 22p/22c/8f in addition to 19g fiber. All around pretty amazing macros even compared to the best of the competition out there. Fairly similar to their cookie dough flavor as well, but a little less carbs which is nice to see. Considering I enjoyed the cookie dough flavor loads better than this one though, those 2g less carbs are pretty negligent to me.
Overall, not too great of an experience with the Total Lean Advanced Peanut Butter Banana bar. I mean, I guess I didn’t dislike it, but I didn’t particularly enjoy it either. It was kind of just there. Bananas dipped in peanut butter make a pretty good combo normally, but it didn’t really come together for this bar here. There aren’t too many banana flavored protein bars out there, so I suppose this is one of the best ones out there all things considered. Still though, with all of the other delicious, more exciting protein bars out there, this is really hard to recommend despite the awesome nutrient profile.
+Whey protein isolate
-More banana dominant than peanut butter
-Just a boring bar
