Venture bars, huh? These were a recent discovery for me when I randomly came across them on bodybuilding.com. I hadn’t heard of them until then, but I’m familiar with the company that makes them, Controlled Labs. They’ve been around in the supplement industry for a long time, and I remember taking some of their products when I first started lifted about 7-8 years ago. The reviews seemed fairly positive on their new protein bars, so I decided to give the Venture Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough bar a shot.
Venture Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Review
Being a fiend for cookie dough, it should come as no surprise that I chose this flavor to try out first. It was a good introduction I would say, as the Venture chocolate chip cookie dough bar was pretty damn tasty. The texture and consistency is very similar to other cookie dough flavored bars out there like Quest, Cor-Sport, Total Lean Advanced, etc. If you like the texture on those, you’ll probably like it on this one as well. It’s very doughy but retains a slight firmness to to it. The actual flavor is solid, but it’s not my absolute favorite amongst all the other cookie dough protein bars out there. If I’m directly comparing the base flavor of this bar alone, I actually think it’s weaker than other Quest imitators like Total Lean Advanced and Cor-Sport if I’m being honest. The chocolate chips, in my opinion, are the real highlight of this flavor and what makes it just as good if not better than those bars. They are DELICIOUS. They taste more dark chocolatey as opposed to milk chocolatey which is a huge plus for me considering that’s a big reason why I like the Quest version so much. They aren’t as big as the chunks in the Quest bar though, so I do think they are still slightly inferior.
The Venture chocolate chip cookie bar totals out to 220 calories consisting of the macros 20p/30c/9f in addition to 20g fiber. The fat and carbs are a little on the higher side, but the overall calories aren’t TOO bad and the fiber intake is incredible. With 2/3 of the carb intake coming from fiber, that makes for a pretty damn good ratio.
My first experience with this new line of protein bars was a success. The Venture chocolate chip cookie dough bar proved to be a worthy combatant in the competitive field that is cookie dough flavored protein bars. I don’t think it was the best ever as that title still belongs to Quest, but it’s certainly closer to the top than it is to the bottom. It might be the best Quest imitator though, right alongside the Cor-Sport bar. The dark chocolate chips are definitely the game changer. I’m eager to try out the Venture bar flavors now considering how much I enjoyed this one.
+Good base taste, dark chocolate chips taste awesome
+Whey protein isolate
-30g carbs is getting up there, and 9g fat isn’t the most welcome sight either
-Still not as good as Quest’s cookie dough bar
