Fit Joy Frosted Cinnamon Roll

Always an exciting day to try out a new protein bar. Not even just a new protein bar, but a whole new LINE of protein bars. Fit Joy was kind of enough to send me all of their flavors to try out before they officially release it out to the public. This is why I don’t have the packaging pictured either because they just sent it in a plain white wrapper. Let me just say first though that they are not paying me in any way to write a favorable review, these are all my own thoughts. Now with that out of the way, let’s start with the Fit Joy Frosted Cinnamon Roll flavor.

The appearance definitely caught my eye initially. The top of the bar features a lot of cinnamon sugar frosting which was pretty appealing to see. Fortunately, it tasted every bit as good as it looked. The cinnamon base flavor of the bar was accurate on its own, but it was really amplified by the cinnamon sugar frosting which was the real highlight. The frosting was the perfect amount of sweetness in my opinion; any less and I would have been asking for more but any more and it may have gotten a little too rich.

Fit Joy Frosted Cinnamon Roll

Size Comparison

The Fit Joy Frosted Cinnamon Roll flavor totals out to 230 calories consisting of the macros 8f/26c/20p in addition to 12g fiber. These are pretty great macros and can stand with the top contenders in the protein bar industry like Quest, Combat Crunch, OhYeah! One, and etc. They are a little bit higher in calories than Quest, but about the same as the other two I mentioned.

Fit Joy Frosted Cinnamon RollThere aren’t very many cinnamon flavored protein bars out there, especially ones that feature cinnamon sugary frosting which is obviously the best form of cinnamon. The only other one I can think of off the top of my head is the Combat Crunch Cinnamon Twist bar, which is easily in my Top 3 protein bars of all time. So with that being said, I welcome the Fit Joy Frosted Cinnamon Roll flavor with open arms. The macros are great and the taste is just awesome needless to say. This is one of the better tasting protein bars out there hands down, and off first impression I think I would have it in my Top 7 or so all time already. Whenever these officially come out, I highly recommend this bar. With this great first impression, I’m very eager to try out all of their other flavors now.

Fit Joy Frosted Cinnamon Roll

+Amazing cinnamon sugary flavor

+Whey protein isolate

-The actual mix-ins could have had more of an impact

Ansi Chocolate Truffle Review

If you asked me a few months ago if I was fan of these gourmet cheesecake bars… The answer would have been a hard no. If you asked me the same question yesterday after trying the first of their new flavors, the answer would be a resounding yes. I really enjoyed the raspberry truffle flavor, so I’m expecting to feel similarly about this flavor so let’s dive on into this Ansi Chocolate Truffle review to find out for sure.

Ansi Chocolate Truffle Review

Like their raspberry truffle flavor, I’m greeted with a pretty aesthetic looking bar featuring a chocolatey coating on the bottom side of the bar. Even though I love chocolate and generally prefer chocolatey bars over fruity bars, I don’t think I enjoyed this one as much as the raspberry truffle flavor surprisingly enough. It wasn’t quite as soft, which might have been my specific bar more than anything, but even still the chocolate base of the bar wasn’t as sweet as I would have liked. The chocolatey coating on the bottom didn’t have as much effect with this bar either since the base of the bar itself is already chocolate so it’s hard to distinguish between the two components; it had more of an impact when contrasting with the raspberry.

Ansi Chocolate Truffle Review

Size Comparison

The chocolate truffle flavor totals out to 210 calories consisting of the macros 20p/26c/8f in addition to 20g fiber. Near identical macros as their raspberry truffle flavor; just 5 more calories, 1g more fat and 1g more fiber. Still some of the best nutritional content in the protein bar game, though.

Ansi Chocolate Truffle ReviewWhile I did enjoy this bar, and certainly a hell of a lot more than their original flavors, I did kind of expect to like it more than I did. Maybe not the best note to end my Ansi Chocolate Truffle review on but it’s the truth at least. Unfortunately the all around chocolatey-ness of the bar just wasn’t too impactful; I think it really needed some type of mix-in for a texture switch up. For a chocolate flavored protein bar though you could definitely do worse taste wise, but you could do better as well. Regardless, the nutritional content on this bar is top notch. If you’re not a fan of mix-ins then this may be the chocolate protein bar for you, but if you’re like me then you may find the flavor/texture to get a little boring by the end.

Ansi Chocolate Truffle Review

Some mix-ins would have been nice.

Pros

+Whey protein isolate

+20g fiber

Cons

-Chocolate coating doesn’t add much to an already chocolatey bar

-Could use some mix-ins

Ansi Raspberry Truffle Review

I’ve tried a couple of other Ansi protein bars before, and they were hugely disappointing. The texture was just rock hard and the flavor was somewhat bland. However, it seems they are trying to turn over a new leaf with their protein bars as they completely repackaged them and came out with brand new flavors altogether. Apparently they don’t even make the other flavors anymore that I’ve tried in the past. I’m pretty curious to see how these new ones compare as they have another chance to win me over, so let’s waste no more time and begin this Ansi Raspberry Truffle review.

Upon opening, I quickly noticed a couple things. The first thing that caught my eye was the chocolate coating that covered the bottom side of the bar; this feature was completely absent from their original bars and is pretty cool to see. Not only does it help the visual aesthetics of the bar, but it provides it with a nice hint of chocolatey flavor too. The raspberry flavor of the bar is pretty tasty on its own if raspberries are your thing, but the chocolate component certainly helps amplify it. Secondly, the texture of the bar was noticeably softer than my experience with their original bars as well. It may have been an old batch or something, but I remember those things were like solid granite. They were an absolute pain to chew through. This one though, was very pleasant to bite into and a soft chew all around.

Ansi Raspberry Truffle Review

Size Comparison

The raspberry truffle flavor totals out to 205 calories consisting of the macros 20p/25c/7f in addition to 19g fiber. The nutritional content on this bar is absolutely outstanding and some of the very best in the protein bar industry. Very few bars are packing near 20g fiber while keeping the carbs and fat as low as they are here.

Ansi Raspberry Truffle ReviewOverall, I had a COMPLETELY different experience with this bar compared to their original bars which are rightfully discontinued. The experience was so different that I’m almost convinced that I got an old or ‘bad’ batch when I tried their original protein bars, either that or they just REALLY stepped their game up with these new flavors. This one was just WAY softer and had more complex flavors with the chocolate coating coming into play which really gave the bar some personality. Job well done, Ansi. While there are a lot of white chocolate raspberry protein bars out there, there aren’t very many raspberry truffle bars so I can end this Ansi Raspberry Truffle review with a definite recommendation from me.

It's a pretty thick bar.

BPI Chocolate Peanut Butter

I’m curious to see how the BPI Chocolate Peanut Butter bar will turn out. I’ve enjoyed the other BPI flavors to a certain degree, but I haven’t been super crazy about any of them to be quite honest. They’re pretty good but nothing incredible. I’ve yet to find a chocolate peanut butter protein that I absolutely love either. Maybe this will be the one… And maybe not. Only one way to find out.

Well, it’s not the godsend chocolate peanut butter protein bar that I was hoping it would be. It was pretty good though. Still nothing amazing. So yeah, basically like all of their other flavors as well. I do think this is my favorite flavor based off first impression however. It has the same Quest bar-like texture where it’s fairly chewy but a little firm on the outside. The chocolate base was amplified by the dried peanut butter chunks which are the best things about this bar hands down; they’re fairly big and contain decent peanut butter flavor.

BPI Chocolate Peanut Butter

Size Comparison

The BPI Chocolate Peanut Butter flavor totals out to 230 calories consisting of the macros 20p/28c/8f in addition to 17g fiber. The calories are slightly higher compared to most of the competition out there, but it’s still not too bad overall. The macros are good as far as ratios go though.

BPI Chocolate Peanut ButterThere may be more flavors out there, but this was the last of the four flavors that I found at the Vitamin Shoppe that I went to. It was definitely a good note to end on as the BPI Chocolate Peanut Butter bar ended up being my favorite out of all the flavors that I tried. It has some room for improvement still, but it’s one of the better chocolate peanut butter protein bars out there. It gets the nod over the same flavored bar from Quest in my opinion.

BPI Chocolate Peanut Butter

The peanut butter chunk is the real MVP.

Pros

+Whey protein isolate

+17g fiber

+Peanut butter chunks are pretty good

Cons

-Texture is a little firm and could be softer

Power Crunch Crisp Sweet Vanilla Dream

This is my second experience with these Power Crunch Crisp bars and I gotta say, I’m looking forward to it. The salted caramel flavor I tried was pretty excellent, and I really enjoyed all of the original Power Crunch bars even though they were more wafer-like. Vanilla isn’t my go-to flavor when it comes to protein bars, but based on their other products I’m still expecting to like the Power Crunch Crisp Sweet Vanilla Dream to a good degree.

Power Crunch Crisp Sweet Vanilla Dream

I was right. The texture was spot on as was the other Crisp flavor that I tried. It’s got a great combination of being crispy on the outside when you first bite into it, but it becomes very soft and chewy after that initial bite. The flavor tasted somewhat similar to the salted caramel flavor if I’m being honest, as it kind of tasted like a mixture of vanilla/caramel flavors but leaning more towards the vanilla side. Whatever it was, I liked it.

Power Crunch Crisp Sweet Vanilla Dream

Size Comparison

The Power Crunch Crisp Sweet Vanilla Dream bar totals out to 185 calories consisting of the macros 14p/14c/9f in addition to 3g fiber. Eh, unfortunately these macros are a bit worse than the salted caramel flavor, and not to mention the calories are higher as well. If this tasted much better it would be justified, but I thought they were fairly equal so I don’t really see where the extra fat is coming from here.

Power Crunch Crisp Sweet Vanilla DreamAnother good experience with these bars, as the Power Crunch Crisp Sweet Vanilla Dream was indeed a delicious treat. The crisp is definitely there, but it does become nice and soft when you chew it. The texture is the real highlight here. The calories are a bit higher than the salted caramel flavor though and considering I found them to taste fairly similar overall, it’s hard to recommend this one over that one.

BPI Cookies

Two BPI flavors down. Two more to go. I wasn’t overly impressed with the cinnamon graham cracker or the s’mores flavors from BPI, but I have some higher hopes for the BPI Cookies and Cream bar as it’s usually a pretty solid flavor with most other protein bars.

BPI Cookies

This was a little better than both of those two aforementioned flavors, but it still wasn’t anything incredible. It still just feels like an inferior version of a Quest bar to me down from the texture to the taste. There are mini cream and cookie pieces scattered throughout, but I couldn’t really taste the cream pieces. The little cookie bits do add a nice crunch, but flavor wise they didn’t do much either. The base flavor of the bar tastes somewhat similar to Quest’s cookies and cream flavor, just without all the amazing chunks of chocolate and cream that make that bar so damn good.

BPI Cookies

Size Comparison

The macros of the BPI Cookies and Cream bar total out to 230 calories consisting of the macros 20p/28c/8f in addition to 16g fiber. These are a little better than the s’mores flavor, but a little worse than the cinnamon graham cracker. Relatively speaking in comparison to all other protein bars out there though, they’re a little on the high side.

BPI CookiesIf these bars would have came out years ago, my review would probably be completely different. The nutritional profile is excellent, it has good protein sources, a lot of fiber and the flavor isn’t too bad. However, there have been so amazing tasting protein bars with equally as good of nutritional profiles to come out in recent years that these really don’t do anything special to set them apart. The flavor has just been flat out done better. As far as cookies and cream flavors go, it’s really hard to recommend this one because to me personally, the Quest version is better in every way down from macros to calories to taste. I maybe recommended some of their other flavors because they’re more unique, but you can find a better cookies and cream bar elsewhere.

I’m hoping that my experience with the BPI Cinnamon Graham Cracker protein bar goes a little better than my experience with their s’mores flavor. While I didn’t dislike it by any means, I just felt that it was like an inferior version of a Quest bar down from texture to taste to macros. It was good, but I saw no real reason to purchase it again when better s’mores bars exist. Cinnamon graham cracker is a more unique flavor though, and I don’t think there’s another protein bar out there with the same flavor in fact.

Once again… Very plain appearance. It looks just like a Quest bar with no obvious mix-ins sticking out which is a little disheartening. Unfortunately, it almost tasted as plain as it looked. I think my taste buds are a bit spoiled now though since I’ve been able to eat a lot of good foods recently considering my contest season is over for this year. This probably would have tasted better a couple months ago, but even still, I had a One birthday cake bar recently and that tasted as good as ever. This just simply isn’t anything amazing. The texture is like a firmer Quest bar, and the flavor tasted extremely similar to BPI’s s’mores bar if I’m being honest; it’s like a mixture of cinnamon/graham-like flavors. I really couldn’t even tell the difference between the two. There are some graham crackers as mix-ins which do add a nice crunch here and there, but they aren’t as flavorful as they could be.

BPI Cinnamon Graham CrackerThe BPI Cinnamon Graham Cracker bar totals out to 210 calories consisting of the macros 20p/26c/6f in addition to 17g fiber. This is a really solid nutritional profile, and much better than their s’mores flavor despite the very similar taste. Just to compare, this one has 3g less fat, 2g more fiber and 30 less calories.

I did think that the BPI Cinnamon Graham Cracker bar was the better experience in comparison to the s’mores flavor especially in regards to what you get for the macros, but at the same time it still didn’t do anything to ‘WOW’ me or make me a huge fan. The cinnamon flavor wasn’t bad and the graham crackers were okay as mix-ins, but I felt that it could have been a touch sweeter and softer overall. It’s hard to recommend this over a Quest bar since they are the closest comparisons as far as texture goes, but I guess Quest doesn’t have this exact flavor so maybe give it a shot to try for yourself.

BPI Cinnamon Graham Cracker

Eh, pretty basic looking.

Pros

+17g fiber

+Only 6g fat

+Whey protein

Cons

-Tastes like a slightly worse version of a Quest bar

Muscle Sandwich Review

With a name like ‘muscle sandwich’, this protein product immediately caught my eye. Upon reading the description of the bar, my interest was just piqued even more. ‘A Peanut Butter Graham Cracker Snack’ you say? As a huge fan of both peanut butter and graham crackers… Say no more. This Muscle Sandwich review was as good as done the moment I laid eyes on it.

Muscle Sandwich Review

It’s hard to say for sure considering this is my first time ever trying this product, but I think the whole thing was supposed to be covered in chocolate. Some of the chocolatey coating looked like it rubbed off on the wrapper when I tried to pull it off because of the slightly warmer temperature in the room where I was keeping it at. Oh well. Now, onto the actual flavor… Holy ****. This was way different than what I expected. Underneath the delicious chocolate exterior lies two graham crackers that hold peanut buttery goodness between the both of them. In other words; it’s utterly amazing. The flavor reminds me of a more chocolatey Nutter Butter with way more emphasis on the peanut butter and less on the crackers.

Muscle Sandwich Review

Size Comparison

The Muscle Sandwich bar totals out to 290 calories consisting of the macros 13p/25c/16f in addition to 2g of fiber… Yikes. Pretty terrible macros actually. I don’t even think this qualifies as a protein bar with that amount of protein in it. No wonder why it tasted so damn good; it was basically just peanut butter and chocolate. Eh, definitely not for someone on a cut.

Muscle Sandwich Review

Okay, make no mistake; this thing tastes amazing. If there’s one thing to take away from my Muscle Sandwich review, it’s that. However flavor is one thing, but macros are a completely different story. The calories/fat content on this are so high that I can’t really recommend this as a daily staple, as it’s not the most filling for how calorically dense it is. I almost view this as more of ‘junk food’ instead of a protein product just due to how dense it is. I mean the 13g protein is nice, but having more fat than even Snickers/Butterfingers/Reese’s bars is not. I would rather just have one of those candy bars alongside a scoop of protein in most cases. Regardless, that doesn’t take anything away from the flavor of the product itself, which is pretty damn great. If you’re bulking or have some extra calories to spare, then give this a try sometime to see how you like it. If you like peanut butter you’re bound to love it as far as taste goes, but a lot of you will probably be like me and find it not the most satiable for how many calories it contains.

Muscle Sandwich Review

If you love peanut butter, there’s no way this doesn’t look good.

Pros

+Impeccable peanut buttery taste

+Taste is so good it feels like you’re eating true junk food with some protein in it

Cons

-290 calories is a lot and it’s not very filling

-16g fat and 13g protein, awful macros

-Only 2g fiber

Recommended: Yes on taste, No if you’re really watching calories

Power Crunch Crisp Salted Caramel

First off, let me just say that I think the original Power Crunch bars are great. They’re really more wafers than bars as they reminded me of those classic sugar wafers from back in the day. The macros aren’t the best considering the higher fat content, but the flavor is on point. With all of that in mind, I was pretty pumped to find that Power Crunch came out with a new line of more macro friendly protein bars. I couldn’t wait to try the Power Crunch Crisp Salted Caramel bar to see how it stacked up in comparison to their original line.

Power Crunch Crisp Salted Caramel

The bar has an appealing appearance to it. The center of the bar looks nice and crispy, and it’s drizzled with a salted caramel coating on the outside. Definitely a radical departure from their original bars. The appearance wasn’t the only thing extremely different though, as the overall taste was as well… But not in a bad way. It’s almost like an oxymoron when describing the texture of this bar because while it does have an element of crisp to it, it’s a really soft and gentle crisp, if that makes any sense at all. I don’t think it does, but just know that it’s a very enjoyable texture. The salted caramel flavor of the bar itself was accurate and on point as well, but I still think the real highlight of the bar is its texture.

Power Crunch Crisp Salted CaramelThe Power Crunch Crisp Salted Caramel bar totals out to 165 calories consisting of the macros 14p/16c/5f in addition to 3g fiber. Comparing to the original Power Crunch bar of the same flavor, this one is better in every way. Less fat, more protein/fiber and lower calories. A win win all around.

My experience with the Power Crunch Crisp Salted Caramel bar was positive on all accounts. With the macros as good as they are, I was slightly worried that the flavor would be sacrificed in result. Fortunately, this was every bit as tasty if not even better than their original Power Crunch salted caramel flavor… And with better macros. If you’re a fan of their other protein bars, do yourself a favor and try these pups out ASAP.

BPI S'mores review

I figured it was only a matter of time before BPI decided to throw their hat in the ring of protein bars. They’re a pretty popular supplement company, so with other supplement companies coming out with their protein bars it’s no surprise that they followed suit. How will they stack up though? Now that’s the real surprise. All of their flavors sounded pretty good, but I decided on s’mores to be the first to try.

BPI S'mores review

My first impression was that it felt and looked like a flatter, wider and firmer version of a Quest bar. It wasn’t really winning any originality points in appearance, so I was hoping the flavor would help offset that. After biting into it… It did. Sort of. The flavor wasn’t anything breathtaking but it wasn’t bad either. The base flavor of the bar tasted pretty similar to the Quest version of s’mores; it’s sort of a cinnamon-like flavor with a hint of graham cracker-like taste in there. I wasn’t really getting where the marshmallow was supposed to come into play though. Speaking of graham crackers, they weren’t exactly the most flavorful components in the world so it was hard to tell but I believe the mix-ins on the bar are crunchy graham crackers. What they lacked in flavor they made up for in crunch, however with this bar already being on the firmer side in the first place, it didn’t really need a crunchy mix-in. I much preferred the chunks on the Quest s’mores bar as far as mix-ins go.

BPI S'mores reviewThe BPI S’mores bar totals out to 240 calories consisting of the macros 20p/28c/9f in addition to 15g fiber. The calories are a little bit higher on this protein bar compared to most of its competition which is a minor flaw, but it did feel just a tad bigger than most others as well so this wasn’t too surprising to see. However, this is a full 60 calories more compared to the Quest S’mores flavor, which I found to be the tastier bar.

To be honest, I kind of had higher hopes going into this BPI S’mores review. I love s’mores as a flavor in general, and I’m a pretty big fan of the Quest’s S’mores bar. Unfortunately, this just didn’t live up to expectations. While it wasn’t bad on its own right and was still fairly enjoyable to a degree, it was just all around inferior compared to Quest. It wasn’t as flavorful, the mix-ins were weaker, it was tougher to chew and the calories are higher. The only reason why I’m comparing it to Quest so much is because they’re one of the few companies out there with a s’mores flavor and the texture of the bar is near identical. If you ever have the option of choosing this or Quest’s version, I don’t think I can ever recommend this one. If you’re comparing it to all other protein bars out there though and the Quest s’mores flavor isn’t an option at the immediate time, then maybe give it a shot.

BPI S'mores review
